Open-Air Butoh Performance
SEHPURPUR

This production marked the conclusion of the series “20 Years of 4RUDE,” which, from October 2025 onwards, presented different facets of 4RUDE’s work through monthly performances at Studio2 in Berlin.

“Sehpurpur” was an open-air Butoh performance unfolding in the transition from day to night. Inspired by a passage from the poetry of Paul Celan, thoughts on visibility, distance, and the impossibility of ever truly reaching another person became intertwined with our own questions about perception and the body.

In a world where violence, destruction, and exclusion are often seen from a safe distance, the Butoh body exposes itself to this distance. It becomes visible, falls apart, grows weary, and transforms — and yet continues to perceive.
